This is my essential book for actuarial interviews. Since I have not worked as an actuary for an insurance company before, the book would guide you through the difference types of actuaries, different daily work style, etc. I would say that the 2 editions are fairly similar. The 2nd edition has some updates since there was a major syllabus change in 2007.

The book is a compilation of responses from surveys given to actuaries about their experience in the profession. I was expecting a more thorough exposition of the topics, especially the difference between the two branches.

This book really helped me understand what I needed to do in order to become an Actuary. The resources for exam section is marvelous. Also take a look at all of the companies at the end. This is a great way to start networking.

About the Author
David K Ferry is Regents' Professor in the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering, at Arizona State University. He received his doctoral degree from the University of Texas, Austin, and was the recipient of the 1999 Cledo Brunetti Award from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers for his contributions to nanoelectronics.
